Im Hintergrund die Flinders Ranges.Die alte Schmalspurstrecke des Ghan läuft parallel zur heutigen Strecke.Nach Port Augusta wird die Landschaft schnell rot und spärlicher bewachsen.Die Sträucher werden kleiner......bis schließlich kaum mehr etwas wächst.Ein riesiger trockener Salzsee kurz vor Sonnenuntergang.Am nächsten Morgen irgendwo im Outback South Australias.Ein Felsen markiert die Grenze zwischen South Australia und dem Northern Territory.Öde Wüstenlandschaft.Der Iron Man erinnert an die millionste Betonbahnschwelle.Der ausgetrocknete Finke River.Rote Sanddünen vor Alice Springs.Die Simpson Wüste erstreckt sich von hier bis in den Westen Queenslands.Ankunft in Alice Springs.Der Zug fährt durch die Heavy Tree Gap, eine schmale Schlucht durch die MacDonnell Ranges.Angekommen im roten Zentrum Australiens.Am Bahnhof in 'The Alice'.Die silbrigen Waggons schimmern in der prallen Sonne.Eine Woche später: Abendliche Abfahrt in Alice Springs......nordwärts Richtung Darwin.Die Landschaft bleibt bis Sonnenuntergang noch unverändert.Am nächsten Morgen sieht es jedoch erstaunlich grüner aus.Graue Regenwolken über dem Northern Territory. Willkommen in der Monsunsaison.Beim Überqueren des Elizabeth River sieht man am Horizont die Skyline von Darwin.
